The last date for applications for conversion of PIO cards to OCI cards has been extended until 31 December 2016. 2) Carrying satellite phones by foreigners into India is banned. Hence, foreign nationals are requested not to carry satellite phones with them while visiting India.

The Consular Wing of the Embassy of India, Hanoi can be contacted for the following services:
  • Visa services for all foreign passport holders (Please note that Diplomatic, Official and UN passports should be accompanied by Note Verbale)

  • All services relating to OCI (Overseas Citizens of India) Cards
  • All services relating to Emergency Certificates and Identity Certificates
  • Police Clearance Certificates
  • Registration and issue of Birth and Death Certificates and Registration of Marriage.

  • Swearing in of Oaths / Affidavits / Power of Attorney etc.


From 23 May 2016 all applicants seeking Consular Services (Visa, Renewal of Passport, OCI & Other Services) from the Embassy are required to obtain online appointment from the “Online Portal for Consular Services” on the Home Page of Embassy’s website

  • Any Vietnamese national seeking visa to travel to India for the purpose of entering into a surrogacy arrangement must ascertain beforehand whether the law of Vietnam permits surrogacy and will provide appropriate travel documents to the child for accompanying the surrogate parents. Non-disclosure of surrogacy arrangements while applying for visa is punishable under Indian law.

  • India allows import of two pet animals as baggage only to persons transferring their residence to India after two years of continuous stay abroad, subject to production of the required health certificate from the country of origin and examination of pets by the concerned Quarantine Officer in India. 

  • Visa applicants are advised not to illegally carry / use satellite phones in India.

  • Indian citizens coming to Vietnam please note that visa on arrival is NOT a norm and visitors are advised to be careful about this before travelling to Vietnam. A local Sponsor / Sponsorship Letter is mandatory. This can be from a Vietnam business establishment, or a business registered in Vietnam or from a person who has a Resident Permit or from a local tour operator.
