The last date for applications for conversion of PIO cards to OCI cards has been extended until 31 December 2016. 2) Carrying satellite phones by foreigners into India is banned. Hence, foreign nationals are requested not to carry satellite phones with them while visiting India.

2-3 Sept. 2016 Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid an Official Visit to Vietnam. He held bilateral talks with his Vietnamese counterpart H.E Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc. He also met CPV General Secretary H.E. Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong, President H.E. Mr. Tran Dai Quang and Chairperson of the National Assembly H.E. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan. Several MOUs/Agreements were signed during the visit. Most importantly, India and Vietnam agreed to elevate the Strategic Partnership to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
 
9 June 2016 Ambassador P. Harish presented his credential letters to the Vietnamese President H.E. Mr. Tran Dai Quang, in Hanoi.
 
5-7 June 2016 Defence Minister Mr. Manohar Parrikar visited Vietnam. He held delegation level talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Sr. Lt. General Ngo Xuan Lich. The Minister also called on the President and Prime Minister of Vietnam. He also visited Nha Trang and Ho Chi Minh City. During the visit, a defence industry business meeting was also organized (6th June) in Hanoi, under ‘Market Expansion Activities.’
 
15 April 2016 First meeting of the Joint Maritime Liaison Committee between India and Vietnam was held in Mumbai, on the sidelines of the Maritime India Summit 2016.

18-19 March 2016 The 18th ASEAN-India Senior Officials Meeting was held in Hanoi. Ms Preeti Saran, Secretary (East) and SOM Leader for India led the Indian delegation. The Vietnamese delegation was led by Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Le Hoai Trung.
 
15 March 2016 The 3rd meeting of the India-Vietnam Joint Sub-Commission on Trade was held in New Delhi. The Indian delegation was led by Commerce Secretary Ms. Rita Teaotia while the Vietnamese delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Mr. Do Thang Hai.
